As things continue to change in the Jack London district I am trying to become more aware so tonight I attended a small meeting at my apartment complex to discuss the imminent conversion of our building to condominiums. Though the meeting was all people from Minneapolis and New York, in true Califronia fashion wine was produced along with appropriate glasses and a lovely evening was had on the courtyard in the warmth of the waning sun. I'm not much of an activist but turning our apartments into condos is a cause I strongly oppose and will maybe light a little fire under me. I'm not one for extra work but I did committ to attending a meeting with our city councilwoman on Saturday. I've only lived in Oakland for three years but in light of the major changes the waterfront will undergo in the next few years I feel like an older resident concerned about how the neighborhood will lose so much of what I like about living here. And the key here is I like living here, the meeting concluded on the note that some people do choose to live in Minneapolis but none of us were really sure why.
