Ceramics, Beginning week 8

Tonight was the last night to make anything new in ceramics class. And as luck would have it I made a rather nice pot. The clay centered well, it didn't push me around. It's very satisfying to feel the clay circling evenly underneath the hands. Like anything else a good foundation makes the rest of the project easier. I opened up the bottom and the walls came up slowly, not too lopsided, no big bulges. Several slow pulls on the walls and I had my first decent piece made with little instructor intervention. Oh but I didn't need another straight walled pot, I have two already, and a lopsided bowl. So I collared the top a bit, bringing it in, adding a little curve. Not wanting to push my luck with anything too fancy I cut it off the wheel, put it on the board and set it aside to dry for a week. Just to remind me how far I've come in eight weeks, tonight I als took home the badly formed and poorly glazed pinch pots from the first week. The next two weeks will be all trimming and glazing and hopefully will result in something I'm not ashamed to post a picture of!
