A Wednesday Without Ceramics

It's Wednesday evening and ceramics class is on hiatus this week as the instructor is out of town. So I've made the bed, straightened up the house, done things that could just as easily been done on Tuesday or Thursday. Though I'm happy not to have to leave the house on this frigid Wednesday I'm anxious to get back to my pots. So here I sit thinking about the pieces I have to trim and glaze, how to shape the bowl's foot, what type of glaze to use. Glazing is not as easy as it looks. First there's decision on color should I keep it conservative try not to ruin a piece mixing odd colors? Or go for a more wild look hoping to improve on the poor design of the piece by jazzing it up with color? The glaze has to be put on evenly or as I learned last week the piece comes out with horrid drippy patches of light and dark color. Of the two pieces I brought home last week one was ruined by an uneven mottled green glazing and ended up in the trash. But lucky reader that you are, I will leave you with this picture of the other.
