2008 Favorite Photo
In 2008 I took 539 photos deemed worthy of putting on Flickr. Most are actually good photos, a few are just because I was documenting something. I went a lot of new places in 2008 so it was a good year for taking pictures. I got a lot of shots I really like.
The photo with the most views and comments is this one of a projection of Obama on election night. It is indeed a good photo. I was able to sit the camera on a truck bed and set the time to eliminate any shaking. I like the car headlights and taillights add an in the moment sort of feel to it. I also like the memory of that night in Oakland when people were out dancing in the streets on a warm November evening. That may be my best photo of 2008 but it's not my favorite photo of the year.
My favorite is this one from Mexico. I love sunsets and silhouettes. In this picture I like that there is the action of the person on the front of the boat getting ready to drop anchor. I like the blackness of the rock in the water, and the hint of the birds flying. The best of the sunset was past at this point, and other pictures capture the orange hues better. Sitting on the beach of Isla Espiritu Santo made getting a good sunset picture easy even with my little Canon Powershot. This picture also brings back a good memory. That evening most of the group went off to try their luck at catching fish. A few of us stayed behind and took pictures of the sunset. It was a wonderful quiet time during the trip where I could just sit and enjoy the view. The view from the boat must have also been splendid but I've never felt I missed out by not being on it. Instead I was able to capture one of my favorite moments of 2008.
