The color of water

Now that the great floods are over, my office window looks out on beautiful blue sky and blue green sea. Of course I know the water is colorless and the color depends on the particles and the light etc. Still, I'm always struck by how different the water in the bay looks on stormy days. Even when it's not actually raining the gray water matches the gray sky, and though the sun may poke through the clouds in the sky the water remains an angry gray. It takes a really bright sunshiny day to return the ocean to it's blue green state. Today, the ocean is looking blue again, not quite middle of the summer bright sparkly blue but more blue than gray. And this is how I know the rain is passing and bright days are ahead.
