Amazing
The Space Shuttle Discovery blasted off this morning on its way to the International Sapce Station to little fanfare. Seeing as it is a national holiday I was able to watch the launch on TV. It's many years since I've seen the shuttle launch broadcast live on TV. At the risk of sounding old, I remember in fifth grade the whole school stopped and gathered in various classrooms to watch the shuttle launch and it was the most extraordinary thing anyone had ever seen. It's still exciting but to the credit of the shuttle program a shuttle launch is not everyone stop what you're doing and watch amazing. It's sad to think probably the only reason today's launch was broadcast live on ABC was because of the recent Columbia disaster. The repeated launching of a reusable shuttle into space carrying a crew is still an incredible feat and still distinctly American. With the advances in video over the last 20 years the camera angles are better than ever. So today on July 4th I hope all of you watched as the space shuttle blasted off once more. You can also now track the shuttle and check out when the shuttle might be visible to you as it orbits the earth. After 115 missions a shuttle lauch can seem commonplace - but it's not it's still amazing!
