The Perfect Sundae

In the dessert department there's a lot of good stuff out there but nothing beats a well made hot fudge sundae. I'd almost forgotten what a wonderful concoction a sundae is. On our recent visit to St. George's Spirits my brother cajoled me into buying a jar of first rate chocolate sauce. So I bought some Vanilla from Ben & Jerry's down the street, a few bananas which are selling fairly cheap right now and pulled a bag of walnuts out of the cupboard. It's easy enough to slice up a banana and put it in the bowl with a couple scoops of ice cream and some walnuts. The most critical part of the whole thing is getting just the right amount of hot fudge. There needs to be enough to get an intense chocolate taste but not so much that it overpowers the banana or pools at the bottom in the end. The chocolate heats up very easily in the microwave making the whole hot fudge sundae operation so much easier than when I was a kid. The small jar of chocolate is almost gone and I expect it will be a while before I get another such treat. But I've sure enjoyed it on hot sunny days after a long hike and on cold evenings in front of the TV. Just about any day is the perfect day for a sundae!
