A Taste of Alameda
Tucked away in an old hangar on the now closed Alameda Naval Air Station is the wonderful St. George's Spirits. Most famous for their absinthe St. George's also produces a surprising number of other tasty spirits. The first batch of Absinthe sold out the first few hours it went on sale and I expect the second went the same way this past Sunday. Though there is often no Absinthe a tasting at St. George's is well worth the visit. The still shining in its coppery glamor is surprisingly small, another one is on order but since each is handmade in Germany the delivery date is still some time off. I'm not much of a hard alcohol drinker but each of the ten spirits we tasted from the citrus vodka to the Qi tea to the pear liqueur was fantastic. Our hostess was extremely know about the distillery process, the ingredients and the company as a whole. Someday I will have to go back on a weekend for the complete tour. It's alway nice to discover something new in your own backyard.
