What a difference a day makes

Early yesterday afternoon riding across the Bay Bridge with coworkers we enthusiastically discussed the birds, seals, rays, and even jellyfish that I regularly see kayaking in the bay, signs of how healthy the water is. We were all blissfully ignorant of the 58,000 gallons of oil that was being dumped into the water below us from a container ship that hit the bridge early yWednesday morning. This morning on the trip back to our office all we could talk about was how could something like this happen and how in the world are they going to clean that up? The truth is there isn't any good way to clean up the oil, the migrating birds covered in black sludge likely won't survive, and who knows what's happened to the jellyfish. (Google Map)
