The Time Travelers Wife
Audrey Niffeneggers's The Time Traveler's Wife is the best novel I've read in some time. I believe the book might suffer in popularity from it's title, giving the impression it's a science fiction book. Which it most definitely is not. The Time Traveler's Wife is the story of a man, Henry and his wife Clare. Henry suffers from Chrono Displacement Disorder which causes him to occasionally time travel to other times and places. When Henry time travels he is suddenly gone from the present time and finds himself at some other point in time, totally naked and clueless as to where and when he is. Often in his adult life he visits Clare as a young girl. So in a way they have known each other for a very long time. The couple meets in regular time, marries and attempts to have a normal life. Except that sometimes Henry disappears and Clare has no idea where he is, what he's doing or if he'll come back in once piece. The back in forth through time allows glimpses into both Clare and Henry's lives in an intriguing way. Amazingly it's not a confusing story, as it certainly could be with all the time shifting. The Time Travelers Wife is well written with wonderful characters. The book is certainly going on my list of favorite novels.
