Wednesday Evening Class

It was Ceramics, Beginning again tonight. The pinch pots from last week, went through their first firing, the coil pot is dry enough to fire and I know have two dishes and one rather lopsided vase to add to my collection of handmade ceramics. Ten weeks of this and I will plenty of things to smash next time I feel the need. I'm hoping experience and glazing will improve my pieces and by the end of the class I will have one or two items I like. For me creativity takes a lot of concentration, so I don't when I'm working on a piece. So when someone starts talking to me a lot of what I say in return is rambling chatter. Tonight though I was absolutely stumped when a classmate asked me had I liked living in Minnesota. Usually I am able to put together some sort of sentence explaining I much prefer California but Minnesota was a fine place. However with all my concentration going into my vase all I could manage was a long Hmmmmmmmm. At which somebody finally commented a long pause is never a positive sign. Then I spouted out some observations without praise or insult in a Minnesota nice sort of way. The truth is I don't remember much about Minnesota or what I liked about it. It was a different kind of life, and a different time. As in anything some of it was good, some of it bad and now I'm just glad to have moved on. I get asked that question often enough I should have a stock answer for it, maybe that answer is simply Hmmmmmmmmm.
