What keeps me up at night?
Coffee. Exercise Sleep. Are the three linked? I’ve always been a lay awake at night tosser and turner. It’s occurred to me on occasion over the past couple of years that maybe there’s a reason for this. Have I been over caffeinated? Sometimes I lie awake thinking I can feel the caffeine coursing through me twelve hours after my last cup of coffee. But on the weekend I’ll easily take a nap just an hour or two after having spent all morning sipping on the coffee mug. Does exercising after work help or hurt? Does it wear me out or get my blood pumping too harshly so I can’t settle down into sleep? Or is it simply stress that keeps me up at night, even when I don’t feel life is particularly stressful? Unfortunately there isn’t really any way to measure stress so I’ll let that one alone. But caffeine and exercise – those are things I can track. So I’ve made a calendar on which every day I will write down how much caffeine and exercise I had and whether or not I was up tossing and turning until ungodly hours? After a few weeks I’ll be able to plot it out on graphs and maybe have a clue as to what keeps me up at night.
