Sunset Haters

One of the best places to watch a sunset is on top of my building. The other night I hiked up all the stairs only to be met with an ominous red sign rudely warning that opening the door would cause an alarm to sound. Now it doesn't look like a very loud alarm, or one that would say call the fire department. And my bet is that it sounds only for a few minutes and goes off after the door is closed. But I wasn't in the mood to test it. I understand as a property manager there's a liability involved in people being on the roof, and it causes extra wear on the roof. Really though how many people were abusing this practice? Was it really necessary to deprive people of a sunset? And where are we supposed to watch fireworks from next year?
