Why Do I live Here?
Once again it's coming up on the time to decide whether to move or renew my apartment lease. With my impending unemployment next year people forever ask me will you stay in the area? I'm not sure why they ask that, but I have absolutely no desire to move away from Oakland, maybe I need to make that a little clearer. Anyway with a rare day off Friday I headed over to the leasing office to see what the story was. After three years the apartment is looking a little worn it needs some new carpeting and the blinds are getting black with soot. I was pretty determined to put up a good fight to get a new carpet and blinds if I was renewing. The apartment building is still in condo conversion limbo so they can't raise the rent but then again they're not giving out incentives for renewal. I expressed my concerns to the manager and she said sure, we need to take a look at the carpet but I'm certain we can replace it and I'll put in a work order for the blinds to have it done next week. After that I didn't have much to say so I left. Two hours later as I'm cleaning the kitchen the doorbell rings. It's the maintenance guy, I'm here to replace the blinds he says. That's service. And that's why I live here.
