At The Movies

10,000 BC has been universally panned by the critics, but I'm here to tell you it's just not that bad of a movie. A lot of the criticism is that the movie has no plot and I agree. Afterall the director also directed Independence Day and The Day After Tomorrow, I'm not sure why you would expect this movie to have a plot. This is not a movie you go to for the plot, or the dialog you go for the special effects and they are fantastic. The Saber Tooth tiger, the woolly mammoths, the building of the pyramids are all vividly realistic. You really feel the scenery, though it seems to be set in some alternative earth where the pyramids are built in a Saharan desert, next to a tropical rain forest, alongside the mountains of New Zealand. The storyline itself seems to designed to show off the CGI talents. I really don't mind once in a while seeing a simple movie. It's a movie that needs to be seen in the theater the massive effects won't play as well at home and I'm sure those renting the DVD will cry out in disappointment. My friend called 10,000 BC a Star Wars for the next generation. I won't go that far but I think it's worth the cost of a movie ticket - especially if you can get in at the matinee price!
