Piano Lessons

My visit to Nashville last weekend was filled with fun and games from start to finish. Friday evening after dinner my brother and I strolled around the well manicured grounds of Belmont University. In the center of the campus sits the Belmont Mansion, which people were entering as we passed by. So we followed the crowd; walked up the steps, took a program, and entered the ornate drawing room. We grabbed some cake and strawberries and sat down amongst the rows of chairs. In the front of the room the setting sun shone through the stained glass windows softly illuminating a Steinway. A woman rose and welcomed us to her music school's Spring Recital. Shortly after very young students took to the piano one by one and pounded out various tunes. It reminded me of the very different yet somehow simliar to the piano recitals all the neighborhood kids played in at the piano teacher's house every spring. I didn't kids still took piano lessons. Piano lessons is one of those things I didn't enjoy as a kid but am now glad my mom made me do it. These kids seemed to be enjoying themselves, and for the most part they were quite good. The setting sunlight, the mansion drawing room, the Steinway it was a wonderful Friday evening concert.
